How to reverse audio on iPhone

You can reverse audio on an iPhone without installing anything from the App Store. This site is a web page. Safari loads it, the Web Audio API reverses an AudioBuffer on the device, and you download a WAV. There is no native AudioReverser iOS package, no TestFlight beta, and no requirement to sideload. If a listing in the App Store uses a similar name, it is not this website.

Safari setup

Use a current iOS Safari. The page needs HTTPS, JavaScript, and permission to read a file or the microphone.

1. Open the site in Safari (not inside an in-app browser that strips file access, such as some mail or chat web views).
2. If you plan to record, wait for the microphone prompt and tap Allow.
3. If you plan to upload, have the clip in Files, Downloads, or iCloud Drive already downloaded, not a cloud stub.

Low Power Mode can throttle a large decode. For a long M4A, plug in or disable Low Power Mode until the waveform is ready.

If you want an icon on the home screen, Safari’s Share → Add to Home Screen bookmarks the site. That is optional. It is still a website, not an App Store binary. See reverse audio app iOS.

Export from Voice Memos

Voice Memos stores AAC in M4A. There is no Reverse button inside Apple’s app.

1. Open Voice Memos, select the recording.
2. Tap the share sheet.
3. Save to Files (On My iPhone or iCloud Drive).
4. Return to Safari, tap Upload, pick the M4A.

Do not rename .m4a to .mp3. The decoder expects a real container. Format notes: reverse M4A. Memo-specific share-sheet failures (Copy instead of file, unfinished iCloud items) are on reverse voice memo.

Voice Memos recordings can be longer than 60 seconds. Upload those. The 60-second cap applies only to Record on this page.

Files app and other sources

Files is the usual bucket:

• Voice Memos you saved there.
• Mail and Files attachments.
• Voice notes saved from Messages (tap the note, share to Files).
• Audio copied from a Mac via AirDrop.

Files can show iCloud placeholders. If the cloud icon is visible, tap to download, then upload. A placeholder will fail in the browser picker.

Video files are not a first-class path. Extract audio on a Mac or in an iOS editor, or expect a large decode to fail. This page does not strip audio from a .mov as a dedicated video tool would.

Photos sometimes contains video with a soundtrack. Share the video to Files as a movie, then extract, or play the video and record 60 seconds with this page’s mic (poor quality, last resort).

iOS microphone permission

Record uses getUserMedia. iOS will show a system dialog the first time. If you tapped Don’t Allow:

• iOS 18-style Safari: tap the “aA” or site-settings control and enable Microphone, then reload.
• Settings → Safari → Microphone should not be set to Deny All.
• Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone must include Safari.

The orange mic status appears while capturing. Stay in Safari until you tap Stop. Switching apps can suspend capture. Recording stops at 60 seconds even if you keep talking.

Bluetooth AirPods work as a mic but often sound thinner. The built-in bottom mic is enough for a reverse joke. Do not play the reversed preview on speaker while recording a second take; bleed reverses into a smear.

Download on iPhone

Safari’s download UI has moved between iOS versions. Typical path: a download arrow in the toolbar, then the WAV in Downloads inside Files. Some versions ask each time (Files vs iCloud Drive).

The file is WAV, not M4A. iMessage usually accepts it. WhatsApp and others may ask you to convert; that conversion is outside this site.

Preview speed 0.5x–2x does not change the download. Pitch does not change. Closing the tab before download discards the buffer. Nothing was uploaded to a server, so there is no “retrieve my file” link.

What the iPhone path cannot do

• Fetch a URL you paste.
• Pitch-shift or translate.
• Batch-reverse a folder of memos in one tap (pick files one at a time).
• Reverse in the background with the screen locked while recording.

Keep the original M4A in Voice Memos. The WAV is a reversed copy. Reverse the WAV again if you need the spoken order restored. Do not delete the memo from the library until you have confirmed the download in Files.
