OGG reverser

Ogg is a container. Vorbis and Opus are codecs that often live inside it. On desktops, .ogg still usually means Vorbis music from Bandcamp, games, or old rips. On Android phones, the same extension often means a WhatsApp or Telegram voice note encoded as Opus. This page reverses whatever the browser can decode from that container. You upload OGG (or MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A, AAC), samples are reversed in the tab, you preview, you download WAV. The note is not copied to our servers.

Vorbis versus Opus versus “OGG”

Vorbis is an older lossy codec. Game engines and some music stores still ship it. Quality at a given bitrate is a different curve than MP3; reverse still cannot restore what the encoder deleted.

Opus is newer, built for speech and low delay, which is why messengers like it. A 20-second voice note is a small Opus stream in an Ogg page structure. Many Android shares name that file .ogg. Some name it .opus. Upload either if the picker allows; if the picker filters by extension, rename to .ogg only when the bytes are still Ogg. Renaming a raw AAC file to .ogg will fail.

This site does not transcode between Vorbis and Opus. It decodes to PCM and reverses PCM. You do not need to know which codec you have unless decode fails.

WhatsApp and Android voice notes

Typical path:

1. Open the chat, tap the note, use the share or save control to put a file in Downloads.
2. In Chrome, open this page and upload that file.
3. Wait. Short notes decode quickly.
4. Play. Switch between Play reversed and Use original. A prank that was reversed before send should become intelligible speech in one mode.
5. Use 0.5x–2x preview to catch fast talk. Preview speed is not printed into the WAV.
6. Download WAV. Share that WAV, or convert if WhatsApp rejects WAV on send.

Do not paste a YouTube link; this is not a downloader. Do not expect a transcript or a translator. Do not expect polarity invert.

Microphone capture on the page is 60 seconds max. Saved chat notes can be longer than that; prefer upload.

Safari on iPhone is less involved in Android OGG notes, but if someone forwarded an OGG to iOS, the same upload path applies if the decoder cooperates.

Why voice notes sound harsher reversed

Opus is tuned for forward speech. After reverse:

• Packet loss concealment artifacts (if the original call was lossy) sit in the wrong place.
• Sibilants become odd attacks.
• Comfort noise, if present, swells the wrong way.

That is source coding, not a bug in the reverse. If you need a clean backwards line for a video, record a new take in a quiet room with reverse voice recorder instead of reversing a compressed chat bubble.

Music OGG / Vorbis

Game loops and indie albums in Vorbis reverse like any other lossy file. Prefer a WAV or FLAC from the same session when you have it. Tags (Vorbis comments) are dropped. Album art is dropped. The WAV is the audio only.

Looping game SFX that were designed to loop forwards will not loop cleanly after reverse; the seam moves. Trim after download.

Browser support

Chrome and Firefox have broad Ogg coverage. Edge is usually fine. Some WebViews on older Android phones fail on Opus. If decode fails, open the note in VLC, export WAV, and upload the WAV.

Files that are Ogg Video (Theora) with a soundtrack are the wrong object. Extract audio first.

Why WAV out, not OGG out

Writing Ogg means picking Vorbis or Opus settings. A second lossy pass would sit on top of the chat encode. WAV is the honest PCM dump. Chat apps that only send their own note format will need a conversion on the device. That is visible to you, which is better than a silent re-encode here.

What we do not do

No speaker ID. No song ID database. No batch of an entire chat export zip (unzip and upload one file). No server-side store. Close the tab; the buffer is gone.

DRM is rare on OGG notes; if a file is encrypted by the messenger, you cannot upload the locked blob and expect decode. Export using the app’s own save control.

After you have the WAV

Listen once in Reverse and once in Normal so you do not send a still-backwards file back into the chat. Two reverses restore order with a short edge fade.

If the goal was a joke, send the WAV (or a converted note) and keep the original. If the goal was understanding a backwards puzzle, transcribe after restore. If the goal was quality music reverse, ask whether you should have started from WAV or FLAC instead of a messenger clip.

OGG on this site means: accept the container people actually share on Android, reverse locally, give them WAV. The codec inside may be Vorbis or Opus. The operation is the same: time runs backwards, data stays on the phone.
