Reverse WhatsApp audio

WhatsApp voice notes are short, compressed, and often the only copy of a joke, a melody hummed in a group, or a clue in a scavenger hunt. This page is for reversing those notes after you have a file. It does not connect to WhatsApp, does not read your chats, and does not log you in.

Export the note first

WhatsApp keeps voice notes in its own storage. The reverse editor can only see a file you pick from disk or a recording you make here.

On Android, open the chat, tap the note, use the share or save control, and land the file in Downloads or Files. The result is frequently .ogg. That container is expected; see OGG reverser for decoder notes. Some OEM skins wrap the same audio as .opus or rename it after share-to-Files. If the picker on this page rejects a nameless blob, rename it to .ogg and try again.

On iPhone, tap the note, use Share, and Save to Files or AirDrop to a computer. iOS often wraps the audio as M4A. That is fine; reverse M4A is the same engine. Do not expect a lossless archive. WhatsApp already compressed the take when it was recorded.

On WhatsApp Desktop or Web, right-click or use the download icon on the voice note. Desktop downloads are the easiest path when the phone UI hides “save.” If Desktop only plays the note and will not save, use the phone export instead.

Group chats and disappearing messages: if the note vanishes on a timer, export before it expires. This site cannot recover a deleted WhatsApp message.

Reverse in the browser

Upload the saved file. Processing stays in the tab. You should hear the end of the sentence first: that is time reverse, not a polarity flip and not a voice changer.

If the export is longer than a minute, upload is the right path. The microphone button on this page is only for a new 60-second take, useful when you want to answer a chat with a fresh reversed line rather than flip someone else’s note.

Preview speed (slower or faster) is for catching syllables. It does not bake into the WAV. If you need a slowed reversed note for a puzzle, change speed in another app after download.

Download the WAV. Keep the original OGG or M4A so you can restore direction later by reversing again; see unreverse audio. Two passes restore word order, with a short fade at the edges that is not bit-identical to the first export.

Send it back into WhatsApp

Attach the WAV like any other file. In many chats it appears as an audio player. In some it appears as a document. Either way the other person can play it.

If a recipient’s device shows a generic file icon and will not play WAV:

• On Android, they can open it in a player, or you can convert the WAV to OGG/MP3 before sending.
• On iPhone, Files and Voice Memos usually play WAV; if iMessage-style compression in WhatsApp re-encodes the attachment, quality drops a second time. That drop is WhatsApp’s encoder, not this page.

Do not paste a link to this website and expect the chat partner’s WhatsApp to reverse in place. They need the WAV (or a copy they reverse themselves).

Privacy

Voice notes often contain names, addresses, and medical details. Because decode happens locally, the samples are not posted to AudioReverser.com. A network log of this visit will show that you loaded the page, not the contents of the OGG.

That is the opposite of a “reverse my WhatsApp” web service that asks you to forward the note to a bot. Do not forward private notes to unknown numbers or Telegram bots that promise reverse playback.

After you download, the WAV on disk is as sensitive as the original note. Treat it like any other chat export: do not drop it in a public Drive folder.

WhatsApp backups (Google Drive, iCloud) are unrelated. This page does not read backups.

Quality of chat audio

Opus in WhatsApp is tuned for speech at a modest bitrate. Reversing it will not restore missing consonants. Sibilants may sound scratchy at the new “start” of the file (the original ending). That is the codec, plus whatever room noise was on the phone mic.

If you recorded the joke yourself and still have the Voice Memo, reverse the memo instead of the WhatsApp re-encode. Reverse a Voice Memo covers the M4A path. If you only have the chat file, use it anyway for a laugh; just do not expect a studio vocal.

Clicks at the cut points are common: WhatsApp trims aggressively. Reverse moves those clicks to the opposite end. Trim in an editor after download if you need a clean loop.

Legal and consent

Reversing a note you received does not give you a license to post it publicly. Group members may not want a backwards version of their voice on TikTok. Keep reversed chat audio inside the chat unless you have permission.
