Reverse voice translator

No speech-to-text and no translation API. Reverse a clip so a listener hears the original language in forward time order.

or

Up to 60 seconds

Queries for a “reverse voice translator” usually mean one of two jobs. The first is a real translator: speech in, text or speech in another language out. This page does not do that. There is no speech-to-text model and no translation API. The second job is more literal: a voice clip is already backwards, often as a joke or a puzzle, and the listener needs the original language in the original time direction. That second job is time reverse. The editor above runs it locally with Web Audio.

If you need English subtitles of a Spanish memo, use a captioning or translation product after you have a forward clip. If you need to hear a backwards Spanish memo as Spanish again, reverse it here, then listen.

Reverse is not translation

Translation maps meaning from language A to language B. Reverse maps sample N to sample 0. A reversed English sentence is still English phonemes in the wrong order. A reversed Japanese sentence is still Japanese phonemes in the wrong order. No dictionary is involved.

People blur the words because:

  • “Reverse” in “reverse image search” means identify. They expect identify-plus-translate for audio.
  • Backwards speech is unintelligible, so it feels like a foreign language.
  • Some novelty toys claim to “translate” by reversing, which is a joke, not linguistics.

After reverse, a human who knows the language can understand it. A human who does not still cannot. This site will not fill that gap.

Speech reverse without the translator confusion is documented on voice reverser.

Restoring a backwards clip so the original language is hearable

  1. Upload the file (MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG, M4A, AAC) or record up to 60 seconds.
  2. Play. If the source was posted backwards, this pass should sound like normal speech in whatever language was recorded.
  3. If it still sounds backwards, the source was already forward; toggling Normal will confirm.
  4. Use 0.75x preview if the speaker is fast. Speed is preview only and is not written into the WAV.
  5. Download WAV if you want to play the restored clip into a separate translator app or send it to a person who speaks the language.

There is no URL fetch. A WhatsApp or Telegram link will not pull the note. Export the attachment, then upload. iPhone Voice Memos follow the same export path as reverse voice memo.

When this workflow helps

  • A friend sent a reversed voice note and you need the actual sentence, in the language they spoke.
  • A puzzle posted “translate this” but the audio is simply reversed English or reversed Spanish.
  • You are checking a viral clip that claims a reversed foreign lyric contains an English sentence. Reverse it; you will hear the original language running forward, which usually kills the claim.
  • You recorded yourself trying to speak backwards and want to hear what you actually produced in forward time.

It does not help when the recording is the wrong language for the listener. Reverse will not turn Korean into English. It also does not help when the clip is music without speech.

If the unknown clip might be a song rather than a spoken memo, restore direction first, then identify with a song ID app. That path is reverse voice search for speech-shaped queries and the music-oriented search pages linked from there.

What you will not get from this page

  • A transcript.
  • A second-language overdub.
  • Language detection (“this is Portuguese”).
  • A text box that speaks a typed sentence backwards via TTS.

Typed backwards-word toys are a different intent. Generating reversed audio from words you type is closer to reverse word generator audio and reverse speech generator, and even those pages still do not call a translation API; they reverse sound, not meaning.

Quality and listening

Phone memos in a second language are often quiet and compressed. Reverse does not add missing consonants. Listen on headphones. Drop preview speed before you decide the language is “unknown”; reversed sibilants at 1x are easy to mistake for a language you do not speak.

Room echo runs backwards and can mask function words (articles, particles) that you need for comprehension. If you control the capture, record dry, then reverse.

The download is WAV. Feed that WAV into a translator app on your phone by playing it to the mic, or import it if the app accepts files. Playing a speaker into another phone is lossy; a file import is cleaner when the app allows it. This site does not broker that handoff.

Privacy and limits

Processing stays in the browser. A translation API would require sending audio or text to a vendor. That is omitted on purpose. Closing the tab drops the buffer.

Recording stops at 60 seconds. Longer foreign-language lectures must be uploaded as files. Very large files can stall on older phones.

No pitch shift. A speaker’s identity and language remain theirs; only order changes.

Keep the original file. If you download a restored WAV and later need the backwards joke version, reverse the WAV once more, or keep the first export.

Frequently asked questions

Does this page translate speech into another language?

No. There is no translation API, no captions, and no speech-to-text. It only reverses the audio timeline.

Why do people call reverse a translator?

A clip that was recorded or posted backwards is unintelligible until you restore forward order. That restore is not translation; it is time reverse.

Can I paste text and hear it spoken backwards in Spanish?

No. There is no TTS voice and no language picker. Upload a recording or record up to 60 seconds.

Will reversing detect which language was spoken?

No. The browser does not classify language. A human listener has to recognize the restored speech.

What should I do after I restore a backwards foreign-language clip?

Listen, or run your own translator app on a device that can hear the speaker or the WAV. That second app is not this site.

Which formats can I reverse before listening?

MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG, M4A, and AAC. Download is WAV. Files stay in the tab.
