Backwards song generator
Upload a song you already have, reverse it in the browser, and download WAV. This page does not compose music or generate original tracks.

Search for “backwards song generator” mixes two products: (1) AI music that writes a backwards-sounding piece from a prompt, and (2) a simple reverse of a song file you already possess. This page is only (2).
You provide the recording. The editor copies samples from the end of the buffer to the start. Drums become suction, cymbals become risers, lyrics become mush. That can be useful. It is not composition. No melody is invented. No drums are programmed. If the input is silence, the output is silence.
Upload a song you actually have
Legal possession still matters. A ripped MP3 you are not licensed to process is not made legal by reverse. For identification experiments (alleged backmasked lyrics), use a file you own or a short clip under rules that apply to you, then maybe ID the forward version with a search tool—reverse music search is about identification after reverse, not about generating a catalog.
YouTube: no URL paste. YouTube audio reverser states the same limit. Spotify/Apple Music streams cannot be pulled from the tab.
Formats: MP3 is the usual rip; WAV/FLAC if you bounced from a DAW or a CD extract. M4A/AAC from iTunes purchases you are allowed to copy. OGG from some indie stores. Download is WAV at the decoded rate. Reverse cannot reconstruct highs that MP3 discarded; high-quality reverse.
Long albums in one file will stress RAM. Reverse a single track, or crop the section you care about (the “secret message” bar, the swell into a chorus).
The microphone is a 60-second alternative if the “song” is you humming. That is a sketch, not a mastered single. Reverse singing website if the work is vocal practice rather than flipping a mix.
What reverse does to a mix
A mastered song is a stack of transients and decays. Reverse puts decays first. The kick’s click moves to the end of each hit. Reverb becomes premonition. Sidechain pumping reads as a swell into the next (previous) downbeat.
You will not get a clean “instrumental backwards” unless the upload was already an instrumental. There is no stem splitter on this page.
Stereo: each channel reversed in time, not swapped. A left-panned guitar stays left.
Speed preview: for hunting a lyric. Not printed. If you need a permanently slowed backwards track for a video, change rate in a DAW after the WAV.
Time reverse ≠ polarity invert. A “phasey” mix problem will not be fixed here.
After the WAV
Drop into a DAW as a texture, chop the useful swell, layer under a drop. For TikTok, import; no TikTok login on this site (reverse audio for TikTok).
Two reverses restore the original timeline with edge fades (unreverse). That is how you check you did not damage a file you still need forward.
MP3 reverser if you want format-specific compression notes. Same engine.
Generator features that are absent
- Prompt-to-song
- Arrangement, key, BPM controls (preview speed is not BPM-sync)
- Royalty-free output from a copyrighted input
- Batch album reverse (batch is sequential uploads)
- Video (picture stays yours to edit elsewhere)
If you came from an AI-music site that used “backwards” as a style tag, their model is unrelated. Here the only generative step is the trivial one: y[n] = x[N-1-n], then a WAV encode in the browser.
Local processing means the track is not added to a training set by us. Once you post the reversed mix publicly, platforms may still match Content ID.
This is a backwards playback generator for a file you bring, not a songwriter.
Stems, BPM, and “new arrangement”
Reversing a stereo mix does not isolate vocals. If you wanted a backwards vocal on a forward beat, you need a vocal stem, reverse that stem here or in the DAW, and line it up. This page will not beat-match. There is no BPM field. Preview speed is not a tempo map.
A reversed drum loop can become a useful fill. Crop the bar you want before upload so you are not reversing three minutes to use 1.8 seconds.
Key and scale: still the same pitches, backwards in time. It is not a modal interchange generator. If an AI site offered “backwards phrygian song,” that was a style prompt to a model. Here the pitches are whatever you uploaded.
Album versus single
Do not upload a 70-minute DJ mix and hope for a clean “generated album.” Memory aside, you cannot audition 70 minutes of reverse in a party setting. Export track-length files.
Gapless albums: the reverse of a gapless join is a join at the other boundary. Expect a click if the source was a glued master. Fade in the DAW.
What to do with the WAV musically
- Layer under a drop as a rising texture
- Sample a reversed chord into a sampler (that is your sampler, not this page)
- Check a mix for “hidden” consonants you might want to EQ on the forward version
- Make a joke intro for a podcast bumper
Then leave this tab. Arrangement, automation, and mastering are not “generator” features we forgot to enable. They are other programs.
If the upload was your own composition, reverse is a cheap orchestration idea. If it was not, you still owe the rightsholders the same respect as the forward mix.
Frequently asked questions
Will this write a new song for me?
No. There is no model that composes. You upload an existing recording; the output is that recording in reverse.
Can I type a prompt like “backwards jazz”?
No prompt box. No MIDI generator. File in, reversed WAV out.
What if I only have a YouTube link?
This page does not fetch YouTube. Save a file you are allowed to use, then upload. See YouTube audio reverser.
Does reverse create a royalty-free track?
No. Reversing a copyrighted mix does not clear the composition or the recording.
Which formats can I upload?
MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG, M4A, AAC. Output is WAV. Mic is 60 seconds if you hum a hook instead of uploading a mix.
Is the song uploaded to a server?
No. Decode and reverse stay in the tab.
